Ballet Midwest will hold open auditions for company dancers on Sunday, January 19, 2020.  Junior Company auditions will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2019.  For those considering auditioning, please note the audition requirements below.  NEW THIS YEAR: ALL dancers auditioning for Junior Company along with their parent/guardian MUST attend a mandatory orientation meeting on Sunday, January 26 at Barbara's Conservatory of Dance at 5:30 pm.  Dancers from any studio are welcome to audition.

Company Dancers

Company auditions will be Sunday, January 19, 2020, at Barbara's Conservatory of Dance. Auditions are open to dancers from any studio that meet the following requirements:

Male dancers must be in 8th grade or age 14 and older by the date of the spring ballet performance.

Female dancers must have at least one full year of experience on pointe in addition to meeting ONE of the following criteria: (1) currently be in 8th grade or older, (2) be 14-16 years old, or (3) be cast AND perform as a flower (must be cast as a flower; flower understudies are not eligible) in Ballet Midwest's most recent performance of The Nutcracker.  Female dancers 16 and older must have at least two full years experience on pointe.   All dancers must take ballet class at least twice a week.

Auditions are held at Barbara's Conservatory of Dance, the host studio for Ballet Midwest.  Audition fee is $10 for any returning Company dancers and $15 for any dancers new to Ballet Midwest Company level (including any Junior Company dancers auditioning to move up to Company). Dancers who are accepted into the company have the opportunity to be cast in Ballet Midwest's spring ballet.  Below is the auditions schedule (subject to change):

2:00-3:15 Current Ballet Midwest Apprentice Division Dancers AND New Female Dancers who have a minimum of 1 full year on pointe and meet one of the following criteria: be in 8th grade or older, be 14-16 years old, OR cast AND danced as a flower in Ballet Midwest's recent production of the Nutcracker

3:15 - 5:15 New Female Dancers 16 years and older, with a minimum of 2 years on pointe AND Current Ballet Midwest Principle, Soloist, and Corps de Ballet Division Dancers

5:15 - 6:00 New Male Dancers in 8th grade or 14 years and older and current Men and Men's Apprentice Division Dancers

Registration begins a half-hour before each audition time. 


Junior Company Dancers

Anyone audition for Junior Company must attend an orientation meeting on Sunday, January 26 with your parent or guardian. Dancers will not be able to audition if they do not attend this meeting with a parent or guardian. Auditions for Ballet Midwest's Junior Company will be held at Barbara's Conservatory of Dance on Saturday, February 1 from 2:00-3:15pm. The Junior Company is for intermediate male and female dancers in 5th grade or 11 years and older (by the date of the spring ballet). Female dancers do not have to be on pointe to be part of the Junior Company.  Dancers must take ballet class twice a week. There is a $10 audition fee for any returning Junior Company dancers, and $15 for any dancers new to Junior Company.  Dancers who are accepted into the Junior Company will have the opportunity to perform a dance to open the spring ballet.
