The Ballet Midwest Company is open to dancers from any studio. Company dancers are chosen for technical ability and performing talent. To be eligible to audition, company dancers must be at least fourteen years of age and young women must have at least one year of experience dancing on pointe.
Each year, Ballet Midwest offers a season of two major productions including the annual Nutcracker Ballet. The Company's repertory of full-length classical ballets includes: Coppélia, Swan Lake, Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet, Midsummer Night's Dream, Cinderella, La Fille Mal Gardee, Billy the Kid and Firebird.
Ballet Midwest promotes on-going education with guest choreographers and an Artist-in-Residence program. Master classes in dance, make-up, nutrition, and dramatic skill are offered to the community.
Dancers are strongly encouraged to attend summer sessions of the country's foremost ballet company schools such as San Francisco Ballet, Boston Ballet, Dallas Ballet, Feld Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Ballet West, and Ballet Magnificat.
In addition to the Company's main performances for the general public, Ballet Midwest has presented over six hundred seventy lecture-demonstrations to church, school, and civic groups since the founding of the Company in the spring of 1977. Ballet Midwest is also available for touring programs on a regional basis.
Interested groups should contact Barbara Ebert, Artistic Director of Ballet Midwest at 785-272-5991 at least three weeks in advance for bookings.
